KEF is a company dedicated to bringing the best sound quality to your home speakers, but when it comes to two of their products — the KEF Q100 and Q150 — is it more of a hype than an investment? Our experts settle the question with extensive testing of the speakers and this KEF Q100 vs Q150 article.
Q150 or Q100?
Q150 vs Q100: Features
Sound Quality
When we tested both units in our listening room, both speakers produced high-quality sounds. In the Q150 speakers, the Uni-Q driver is placed at the speaker’s front and center for the best sound quality. The Q150 also evens out treble frequencies to produce a smoother sound with the damped tweeter loading tube to terminate sound from the tweeter’s back.
Meanwhile, the Q100 delivers a fast and clean response from the Uni-Q array driver. The driver is placed at the acoustic center for optimal sound quality. When in use, the sound envelops the room [1] evenly.
Both speakers operate similarly, but since the Q150 model is more recent, the sound technology is more developed. The sound is clearer and crisper with the advanced tweeter capabilities. Since the Q150 is a newer model, it’s also better than the Q100 model in some aspects, particularly the bass performance.
Subwoofer
Both speakers offer high-quality sound with subwoofer connections and easy setup.
The Q100 can be connected to subwoofers to enhance the sound quality. The Q150, however, comes with a redesigned sound system that increases bass sound with an enhanced Auxiliary Bass Radiator.
And with increased bass, you’ll get to hear a lot more rumble in the low frequencies without overwhelming the mids and highs.
Connections
Both speakers are designed to connect to TV sets. The Q100 can also connect with subwoofer sets to increase bass sound quality.
For a smoother design, the Q150 comes with a port in the back of the speaker. Neither speaker offers connections to Bluetooth devices as they are designed to be connected to TVs specifically. Despite the lack of wireless options, we found that the connection itself is smooth and stable.
Channels
When talking about the number of drivers in the Q150 vs Q100 debate, both speakers offer two channels of audio. However, even if that’s what it says on paper, we find that the Q150 has a fuller and more well-balanced sound.
Easy Setup: Q150 vs Q100
Our audio experts say that these speakers offer an easy in-home setup. By connecting with the cord and ensuring that your TV is on the right audio channel, you will be ready for an enhanced sound in your home theater in no time.
The cord ports on the Q150 are located on the back so the cords can be hidden easier, and they are smaller so they can be set in more places. Q150 also is the preferable option for placement and setting up. Nearly any living room or room design will be great for the Q150.
KEF Q150 vs Q100 Price
Due to the newer model and more advanced features, the Q150 is notably more expensive than the Q100. This may not be an issue for most, but customers on a tight budget may be more drawn to the Q100.
Overall Winner: Q150
When looking at the models up close and examining the features they offer, in the discussion of KEF Q100 vs Q150, the Q150 is clearly the winner.
As the Q150 is the newer model, it offers a higher quality sound and better bass. It also has a sleeker design, a well-balanced output, and an easy setup. Due to its size, it is more flexible about where it can go and how it works. Since the product was released later, KEF was able to work out any problems that the Q100 model had.
